Kenyans are still unimpressed with Beyonce’s new album “The Gift” following her route to feature only West and South African artists.
“The creatives are complaining saying that a Kenyan act, if not Them Mushrooms, should have been on the album,” said Katana.
“The phrase [Hakuna Matata] came from Kenya, from our band. So everybody feels that Kenya should have been added a piece of the pie.”
Last week, a lot of East Africans creatives complained about Beyonce only working with West African artists despite the movie being shot in East Africa.
Disney released The Lion King soundtrack, produced by Beyonce herself. It’s packed with Afrobeats artists including Yemi Alade, Tekno, Mr. Eazi, Burna Boy and Wizkid.
“I wanted to make sure we found the best talent from Africa and not just use some of the sounds and did my interpretation of it. I wanted it to be authentic to what is beautiful about the music in Africa,” Beyonce said in an interview with ABC TV.
Other present in the album include the likes of JAY-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino Moonchild Sanelly, Busiswa, Salatiel, Shatta, Wale, and Pharrell.
